Stevens Point man accused of using search engines to find child pornography

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – A 66-year-old Stevens Point man is free on $10,000 bond after being charged with five counts of possession of child pornography.

Joseph Schaufenbuel is expected to enter a plea before his defendants on December 16th.

An investigation began on October 10th. According to court documents, investigators examined cyber tips received in August and September 2024 related to a Bing image search for possible images of child pornography or child sexual abuse materials.

Investigators said the IP address, email address and phone number led them to Schaufenbüel's home.

The investigators confiscated a laptop which, according to their statement, contained a total of 118 images with obvious child pornography content. In addition, 28 images containing child exploitation material were found.
