Parents Argue Over School Overdose Incident, Citing Red Pill

Two teenagers remain hospitalized in Onslow County yesterday after possibly overdosing.

Emergency services responded to a student at Northwoods Park Middle School in Jacksonville who was exhibiting symptoms of a drug overdose.

News 12 spoke with the parents of one of those children today.

According to a news release, school officials actually confiscated a vape cartridge that they suspected was being used by the students. However, one parent told us that his daughter began experiencing symptoms after taking a small red pill to another student who was being treated at Onslow Memorial Hospital for similar symptoms.

Well, another little girl also took the red pill.

David Fox got the call no parent wants to get. His daughter was unresponsive at Northwoods Park Middle School. He rushed to the school, where police were investigating a possible drug overdose incident.

She told them it was a red pill that she took because she had a headache, and this other student offered it to her. And they took one too, but that student checked out early. Her parents took her home and they started having the same symptoms as my daughter.

Fox's daughter was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital. Today she is at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

That's because they did a toxicity test and there are no narcotics in their bodies at all. There is no Tylenol, there are no narcotics.

Fox was confused by the mention of a vape, saying nothing about it was discussed yesterday.

It was completely misinterpreted. There are teachers and other students who said they saw these two students taking these red pills, which is why there was no mention of it in the statement.

What exactly happened is still unclear.

The school resource officer for Northwoods Park Middle School is from the Jacksonville Police Department. We reached out to police officers for clarification and were told they are still investigating the incident and will let us know more as soon as they can.

Onslow County school administrators said they are working closely with JPD but would not do an on-camera interview. If anyone has information that could be helpful, they can contact the school at (910) 347-1202, JPD Detective McCarty at (910) 938-6408 or email [email protected] or Crime Stoppers call (910) 938-6521.
