Southern Illinois judge's wife charged with murder

EVANSVILLE – The wife of an Edwards County, Illinois, judge has been arrested and charged with murder.

Illinois state troopers arrested Megan S. Valentine, 44, of Albion, Illinois, in connection with the fatal shooting of her husband, 41-year-old Judge Michael J. Valentine of Illinois' Second Judicial Court, earlier this week.

According to an Illinois State Police news release, Megan Valentine is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated domestic battery. All charges are felonies.

State Police reported that at 12:14 p.m. Tuesday, the Edwards County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the 1100 block of County Road 600 in Albion.

“Upon arrival, an ECSO deputy observed the body of Michael Valentine lying in front of the residence,” the release states. “Megan Valentine has been taken into custody. ECSO has asked ISP to lead the investigation.”

The Illinois State Police investigated and presented their case to the Illinois State Attorney General's Office on Thursday, whereupon charges were filed.

Megan Valentine was in the White County (Ill.) Jail as of Thursday afternoon.
