Man arrested after randomly stabbing teenage girl at Hyannis Dollar Tree – Boston news, weather, sports

HANNIS, MASS. (WHDH) – A 31-year-old man was arrested Thursday for stabbing a teenage girl at the Dollar Tree location in Hyannis.

According to authorities, Rescigno “approached the young woman from behind in the store foyer and, without warning, stabbed her in the lower back as she stood next to her mother.”

Police said he was unknown to the victim and the attack “appears to be random and unprovoked.” Witnesses told police he remained at the scene, staring at the victim and eventually dropping the knife when a bystander asked him to do so.

Police took Rescigno into custody without incident upon arrival.

Nikolas Rescigno, 31, of Hyannis, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was also charged with another outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court following another incident involving a knife, this time at the Cape Cod Mall in May 2023.

Bail was set at $5,000. Rescigno is expected to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Friday.
