Police: Woman dies after motorcycle accident in Newark

Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident in Newark

NEWARK, NY – A woman has died after a motorcycle accident on West Union Street in Newark on Thursday.

According to Newark police, around 4:43 p.m., two people – a male driver and a female passenger – were on the motorcycle and riding on the sidewalk. According to police, the driver was trying to get the bike onto the road when the rear tire hit the curb. The passenger was thrown from the motorcycle and a witness told News10NBC she hit a pole. Police said she did not survive.

News10NBC photojournalist Rajae Barnes-Wright spoke with a witness at the scene, a teenager who says she and her mother administered CPR to one of the victims.

“Just saw him walking up the curb and she was flying, so to speak – she was rising into the air, so to speak; she flew back. She hit the pole,” Myanna Ward said. “It was like I never thought I'd have to use this (CPR), especially now, in a moment like this – like you're just sitting down and doing nothing, and then all of a sudden you have to run out of the house and help .”

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
