NYT “Connections” October 23: Hints and Answers for Game #500

A new day means a new one Connections Puzzle, and Wednesday's game has a specific theme for its 500th milestone.

The brain teaser was published by The New York Times in June 2023 and has become the release's second most popular game. Wordleanother word puzzle created by engineer Josh Wardle currently takes the top spot.

In June, Connections developers and New York Times Crossword Editor Wyna Liu narrates Newsweek that the daily puzzle “takes a long time” to solve, noting that she tries “different angles” before landing on the final product.

“Every board has to be made from scratch,” she said.

How to play “Connections.”

Connections is easy to learn, so don't worry if this is your first try. At the start, players are given a table of 16 words and must divide these words into four groups of four based on common characteristics.

Each group of four words fits into a specific category, ranging from yellow to green to blue to purple – with yellow being the easiest and purple being the most difficult.

For example, in Tuesday's game, the words “Bingo,” “Marco Polo,” “Tag” and “Uno” were linked to the category “Games where you say the name of the game.” This was a purple category.
