PICTURED: Halifax Walmart employee 'baked to death' in walk-in oven – as 'traumatised' family speaks out

This is the young girl who was “baked to death” in a Walmart walk-in oven, only to be found by her own mother.

Gurismran Kaur, 19, was working with her unnamed mother at the store in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Saturday evening when the terrible fate befell her.

A GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the child explained that Kaur's mother regularly checked on her daughter while they worked shifts together.

But when she hadn't seen her in the store for a long time, she became worried and went looking for her.

She eventually found her daughter's “charred remains” in the bakery's oven when another employee noticed a “leak” coming from that area.

A family spokesman has since said that Gursimran's relatives are devastated by her tragic death.

According to the community's appeal, Gursimran's “charred remains” were found in the bakery's walk-in oven after a few hours.

“Imagine the horror experienced by her mother, who opened the oven herself when someone pointed out the 'leak' inside.”

Gursimran's phone was “unreachable” after which her mother panicked as it was “unusual for her to switch off her phone during the day.”

“Gursimran’s mother tried to find her after not seeing her for an hour,” the board of the Maritime Sikh Society said in the appeal, which has already raised $46,000.

“She asked around, but everyone brushed it aside because they thought she could help a customer somewhere.”

Gursimran is remembered as a “beautiful girl who came to Canada with big dreams.”

She and her mother arrived in Nova Scotia less than three years ago.

Her father and brother are still in India and the community is desperately trying to raise the funds needed to bring them to Canada.

“The suffering of this family is unimaginable and indescribable. They need your support to get through this terrible time,” the appeal says.

Harjit Seyan, president of the Maritime Sikh Society of Canada, told Global News that his community has been supporting the traumatized Gursimran family since her death on October 19.

“The immediate family is absolutely shocked,” Seyan said.

“You are in some kind of trauma. We are truly sorry to hear of such a tragic event.”

This came after Canada's national broadcaster CBC News said its sources told them the device at the Halifax store was “unlocked.”

That raises worrying new questions about the death, with previous reports citing a 911 call saying the woman was trapped in the oven.

Mourners have flocked to the supermarket since the tragedy, laying flowers and paying tribute to the victim and his family.

The young woman had arrived in Canada just three years ago and had developed close relationships with the Maritime Sikh Society.

“It is quite disturbing when you consider that young people come here with hopes and dreams,” board member Satnam Singh Randhawa said earlier.

“They work hard and that’s exactly what happens.”

The oven was an industrial oven and large enough for one person to walk inside.

Nova Scotia's Ministry of Labor has since issued a “stop work order” for the bakery itself, as well as a Walmart unit. You have not specified which device is covered by this order.

Balbir Singh, secretary of the Maritime Sikh Society, said the victim's mother is also in Canada and is receiving “psychological counseling.”
