1-10 closed in both directions due to barricade situation near Cortaro Road

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Department of Public Safety and multiple agencies are assisting Phoenix Police with a barricade situation at EB I-10/MP 158 near Cortaro Road.

According to our sister station AZ Family, the barricade situation is related to a double shooting that occurred in Phoenix overnight.

Phoenix police responded to reports of two people with gunshot wounds before 2 a.m. near 27th Avenue and McDowell Road.

Authorities said a suspect shot and killed the mother of his children and her boyfriend at a home near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix.

Phoenix police told AZ Family that the boyfriend is doing well and the woman is in critical condition at the hospital.

Phoenix police said the suspect left the scene and drove south on I-10, where Department of Public Safety officers followed him into the Tucson/Marana area.

Authorities said the suspect is currently barricaded in a car with a gun.

According to the Department of Public Safety, all eastbound and westbound lanes and access roads are closed.

Authorities say the estimated time until reopening is unknown. The area should be avoided at this time.
