Ravens' 'nuclear' offense is booming; NFL World marvels again at Lamar Jackson

NFL Research: Ja'Marr Chase's 431 yards rushing against the Ravens this season are the most ever by a player against a single opponent in a season, surpassing Art Powell's 428 rushing yards for the Raiders against the Oilers that year 1963.

ESPN's Jamison Hensley: “The Ravens' pass defense, the worst in the league, looked like this in the second half when Baltimore was without All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton (ankle). The Ravens allowed touchdown passes of 67 and 70 yards to wide receiver.” Ja'Marr Chase has now recorded 28 completions of 25 or more yards this season, the most in the league.

The Baltimore Suns Tim Schwartz: “This offense is dominant right now. If the defense (and, er, special teams) can reach league average, it will be a tough team to beat. But their ceiling is so high because this defense has been the best in the league recently.” Something has to change in the defensive backfield this year, but they have Superman at his best at quarterback.

Bennett Conlin of the Baltimore Sun: “John Harbaugh's team still has major defensive problems. An injury to Kyle Hamilton depletes the weak secondary – the Ravens need him back healthy as soon as possible. Until the pass defense improves, Baltimore will rely on its offense to win games. Until 10 games.” , this strategy seems good enough to at least compete for the AFC North.”

Russell Street Report's Tanner George: “The secondary struggled once again, giving up two big touchdowns to Ja'Marr Chase, who seemed to be Baltimore's No. 1 player the last few years. Marcus Williams had a pretty up-and-down game and Brandon Stephens had some problems at one point.” In coverage, however, Marlon Humphrey played the ball and Nate Wiggins had a solid game.

Tribune Report Staff: “Once again the Ravens almost lost [to the Bengals]– because the pass defense was terrible. This is not a new problem for the Ravens. Entering Week 10, they had the NFL's best run defense and the league's worst pass defense. The 280 yards and turnovers that Baltimore allowed through the air at the start of Week 10 are increasing. Joe Burrow devastated the Ravens on Thursday night with 428 yards and four scores. Ja'Marr Chase caught three of those scores and gained more than 250 yards. However, the Bengals did not have Tee Higgins for this game. They knew Burrow would rely on Chase – and there was absolutely nothing the Ravens could do about it…Jackson could very well be the NFL's MVP (again). Henry could become the first running back to reach 2,000 rushing yards twice in a season. But this Ravens team isn't playing in New Orleans in February. Not with a non-existent secondary school.”

Bo Smolka from PressBox: “Ja'Marr Chase had the middle of the field all to himself on a 70-yard touchdown pass that tied the game at 28 in the fourth quarter, but that was just the most obvious and clear continuation of a glaring trend for the Ravens this year.” Season: They don't really stop anyone in the middle of the field. Joe Burrow threw quick slants or curl routes on third down as his receivers found open space up the middle.

The Baltimore Sun Staff: “Chase had to be priority No. 1, the human embodiment of a skull and crossbones, but there he came and broke free to catch a game-tying 70-yard touchdown pass. He even wiped off and stopped just short of the goal line and danced along it for a few seconds to emphasize how far he was from being covered… As the Bengals' No. 2 wide receiver, Tee Higgins , out with a quadriceps injury, there was really only one Cincinnati playmaker who could destroy the Ravens, and Chase did it, catching 11 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns.
