Senator Wicker celebrates the groundbreaking of a new power plant in Washington County…

GREENVILLE – Today, Entergy Mississippi celebrated the groundbreaking of its first new natural gas power plant in 50 years.

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., issued the following statement:

“I applaud Entergy Mississippi for continuing to invest in our state. The power plant will bring more jobs, growth and economic opportunities to Greenville and the surrounding communities.” said Senator Wicker. “Today is a great day for the Delta and our state.”

The new natural gas power plant will be the first combined cycle combustion turbine power plant that Entergy Mississippi has built from the ground up. The plant's advanced and efficient technology will generate more electricity from the same amount of fuel, ensuring our state will continue to have reliable energy for years to come.

Entergy Mississippi plans to decommission the Gerald Andrus Steam Electric Station, currently located in Greenville. This new facility will generate more electricity, helping to meet the energy needs of the future data center.
