The Detroit Pistons were just seconds away from winning their third straight game.

The Pistons had a great game in the final seconds to take the lead over the Charlotte Hornets through this year's first-round pick Ron Holland II, but lost heartbreakingly when they forced a miss from Grant Williams before Brandon Miller was in perfect position for a tip-in to beat the Pistons as time expired.

The loss was hard to swallow as the Pistons were on the verge of doing something they couldn't do once last year, win three straight.

However, as even the Pistons' front office said in the offseason, this year isn't necessarily about wins and losses in the first year of a rebuild, although the team definitely had to be better than last year's historically poor squad.

So far this is the case, and to the surprise of no one, Cade Cunningham is leading the way. Cunningham posted his second straight triple-double on Wednesday, scoring 20 points as well as 10 rebounds and 10 assists against the Hornets while, importantly, committing just two turnovers.

In the game before, Cunningham had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Cunningham's backcourt mate Jaden Ivey also continued his strong start to the season, scoring 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting. It was the fifth time in nine games this year that Ivey scored over 20 points.

Unfortunately for the Pistons, big man Jalen Duren had to leave the game in the first quarter after injuring his ankle, and his status for Friday's game against the Hawks appears to be in question.

The Pistons play at home against the Houston Rockets next Sunday.
