The Rangers are the first to score four goals and overtake the Canadiens for their fourth straight win

Mika Zibanejad gave New York a 1-0 lead with his first shot 54 seconds into the first period. Artemi Panarin, who extended his points streak to six games early in the season (six goals, seven assists), started the game with a pass to the right point, where Adam Fox fed Zibanejad from the top of the left circle for a one-timer.

“It's crazy, we get a couple big shots in our zone and all of a sudden we go down and score,” Rangers defenseman Braden Schneider said. “And when we opened up [with] Firstly, our team has gained that confidence and we're starting to put it in the net more and tonight they went in.

“When we get going, we have so many quality players and guys ready to work all over the ice. Once we feel it, I think we’re a pretty scary team.”

Jonny Brodzinski made it 2-0 after 2:05. He was left alone in front of the Montreal goal, where he beat Montembeault after a shot from Adam Edstrom.

Reilly Smith made it 3-0 at 6:40 by picking up the puck from Canadiens rookie defenseman Lane Hutson in the neutral zone before breaking in and firing a shot under Montembeault's glove.

Chytil scored a power-play goal to give New York a 4-0 lead at 11:05, tipping in Smith's pass as it shot into the net.

Montembeault, who made six saves on 10 shots, was replaced after the goal by Cayden Primeau, who made 32 saves.

“It’s definitely up to us,” Suzuki said. “It seems like we gave them a few goals. You can't do that against such a good team. They find a way to lock it down and it was difficult for us to come back.”
