Sources – Army QB Bryson Daily returns against North Texas

Army quarterback Bryson Daily will return to start for the No. 25 Black Knights on Saturday against North Texas, sources told ESPN.

Daily, the engine of Army's potent offense, missed the team's win over Air Force last week due to an undisclosed injury. Sources told ESPN that he returned for a tryout this week on Thursday and trained fully for the first time on Friday before the Army's departure to Denton, Texas.

Army is 8-0 and is off to its best start since 1996. Army checks into the inaugural College Football Playoff rankings as the third-highest ranked team from outside a power conference, as it trails No. 12 Boise State (7-1) and No. 21 Washington State (7-1). Army is in first place in the American Athletic Conference at 6-0 in conference play and is 5-0 ahead of Tulane.

Sources say Daily has been “looking like himself” since returning to training. However, the sources said there are some concerns about his ability to play a full game after a two-week stretch in which he only took part in one practice and one walk-through.

There's a chance backup quarterback Dewayne Coleman, who started his first career game against Air Force, ends up getting snaps. By the end of this week, he had taken all of Army's first-team offensive snaps for the past two weeks.

Daily's return is crucial for Army as he leads the nation in both rushing touchdowns for a quarterback (19) and rushing yards per game for a quarterback (129.8). Only Boise State's Ashton Jeanty has more rushing touchdowns (20).

Before the injury, Daily had played two of the best games of his career, scoring five rushing touchdowns and running for 171 yards against East Carolina and four rushing touchdowns and 136 yards against UAB.

Army leads the nation with 340.1 rushing yards per game.
