Fitchburg burglary suspect arrested in Madison

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A burglary suspect was arrested Tuesday after an off-duty officer spotted him at a grocery store, Fitchburg police said Friday.

Officers said they recognized the 29-year-old from surveillance video of the break-in, police said. On-duty officers then arrived at the Madison convenience store and arrested the suspect as he exited.

Police said the man went into the package room of a senior living home in the 2000 block of Traceway Dr. broke in, FPD said. He is then said to have taken several packages with him.

The alleged Oct. 31 burglary was the second the man has been charged with at the same residence, FPD said.

After his arrest, police allegedly found a stolen laptop in his car. During a search of his apartment, additional stolen items are said to have been found.

The man was ordered released on bail, but he faces another burglary charge in Madison and is still in the Dane County Jail, according to FPD.
