Houston mother and son speak out after school dispute video goes viral

A Houston mother and her son are sharing their perspective following the distribution of a school fight video that has sparked controversy and debate online. The incident, which occurred during the first week of school at Cesar Chavez High School, resulted in a student suffering a concussion and severe depression.

Karlina Triplett, the mother of the student in question, spoke to FOX 26 and defended her son Jashaun Adams after he was attacked online for his involvement in the altercation. “He shouldn’t have taken my son’s money,” Triplett said, explaining the motive behind the altercation.

The fight, which was captured on video and shared widely on social media, showed Adams questioning another student about the whereabouts of his money, which led to a physical altercation between two other students. The amount in dispute was $20.

Janet Gallo, the mother of the other student involved, expressed her dismay to FOX 26: “They attacked him for $3. My son almost lost his life because of three dollars.”

The school's response to the incident included a three-day suspension for Adams and a grounding order. The injured student has since changed schools and has been medically diagnosed with a concussion, which only allows him to attend school for half a day, and he is suffering from severe depression.

Adams expressed regret over the situation and warned others against similar actions. Triplett advised parents to educate their children about the consequences of theft.

“I don’t wish him anything bad. I just wish he wouldn't do that again. If it had been another person, it could have been worse with another person,” Adams said.

“My advice is to teach your children not to take money from them so that you and your friends don't take money from anyone,” Triplett said.
