Viral Texas fan asks actor Matthew McConaughey to shave his head for charity

A photo of Texas Longhorns fan Grant Walther went viral during the team's 30-15 loss to Georgia after a picture of him frowning in the fourth quarter was posted on X, formerly Twitter. The picture has already received more than 5.9 million views, with many commenting and admiring his hair online.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Walther wanted to use his newfound fame to advocate for causes close to his heart.

“I know Matthew McConaughey cut the players’ hair. Maybe he can cut mine in the field and raise some money for cancer awareness. My grandmother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and then beat it,” he said. His great-grandfather also has bladder cancer.

“This is the perfect platform for me to advocate for the things that matter most to me,” said Walther.

Walther, who said he isn't really on social media, has been inundated with messages since it went viral, and although he has received rude messages, he prefers to focus on the positive, particularly news from the Longhorn community.

“'What I appreciate most about Texas football is the community and how welcoming it is,' he said. “Even though 95 percent of the comments are just attacking me, there's still that 5 percent of people out there that say, 'Don't worry, man. “I was right there with you, otherwise we’ll get them next time.” And I really appreciate those,” Walther said.

The 20-year-old aspires to become a lawyer and is studying government in Texas.

“My goal was always to study law,” he said. “Maybe this can help me get there, and if it's possible, I'm happy to use it to do that…this is a huge opportunity for me,” Walther said.

Walther said he never thought about becoming internet famous, but said he would like to appear on the Talk Tuah podcast.
