An Arizona airline passenger is going viral after leaving an unlabeled powdery substance in her luggage. The TSA inspects your luggage

An air traveler's recent mistake resulted in her luggage being flagged by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

After reaching her destination, Anna McKay of Phoenix, Arizona, noticed that her bag had been inspected along with a notice from TSA.

“I opened my luggage and had an inspection tag on it and everything looked normal until I got to my bag of fiber which looks like it was rifled through because I didn't pack it like that,” McKay said in her viral TikTok Video.

According to her video, McKay realized it was her clear bag containing “the powder we as millennials travel with” that may have raised safety concerns.

What the TSA found was a bag of powdered fiber that McKay packed in her luggage, she said.

“I had no idea how silly it would look and did it thoughtlessly. It wasn't until I opened my bag and realized how bad it looked that I knew I had screwed this up,” McKay told Fox News Digital.

“I've had my bags searched a few times so I didn't bother. But when I saw the suspicious bag, which looked disheveled, I realized [it was the reason] behind the small TSA card.

The card McKay found in her bag was a “bag inspection notice,” which informed her that an officer needed to physically inspect her bag after an inspection.

TSA notice

“TSA may inspect your checked baggage during the screening process. When your belongings are physically inspected, TSA will place a baggage inspection notice in your luggage. This is to inform you that an officer has conducted an inspection of your property,” according to the TSA website.

McKay knew it wouldn't be necessary to fly with the fiber container, so she decided to pack the amount she needed for her three-day trip in a clear plastic bag to prevent possible spills from the powder's original packaging.

She said she knew the fiber optic wasn't banned from the flight, so she didn't think twice about bringing it.

“I knew it wasn't a banned substance, but I wasn't worried about losing it either. If it were gone, I could just buy more. It didn't occur to me that she might have caused some questions,” McKay added.

The TSA was able to repack her bag after the powder passed screening, but agents had yet to inform McKay that her bag had been searched.

“It's simply nothing more than a notification that a TSA inspection had to take place on checked baggage and then presumably if all the security issues were resolved, everything would be closed again and no issues would arise,” a TSA spokesperson told Fox News Digital .

“For prohibited items, in the case of a powdered substance, law enforcement would be called because the TSA is not a drug expert when searching for drugs. However, if there is a suspicion of drugs, we are required to call local law enforcement.” Check the article and whether in this case, as you said, it is something that is over the counter and harmless.

TSA white powder split

The TSA does not prohibit anyone from carrying powdered substances, but certain rules apply.

“Powdery substances larger than 12 oz/350 ml must be placed in a separate container for x-ray examination,” the TSA website states.

“Additional inspection may be required and containers may need to be opened. For your convenience, we recommend that you pack non-essential powders weighing more than 12 ounces in checked bags.”
