Crime Fighters 6abc: Man fatally shot outside his Philadelphia home months ago; Mother is looking for answers

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man returning home from work was shot and killed on his doorstep in Philadelphia earlier this year.

His mother heard the shooting from inside the house. Now she hopes someone can help her find her son's murderer.

On February 4, Dre'Ryl Coleman was outside his home on the 6500 block of Grays Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia.

Coleman's mother spoke to Action News but asked that her face not be shown.

“He just came home from work. He had just dropped off his colleague,” remembers Ayanna Eberhart.

His mother says Coleman came home around 12:15 a.m. She remembered it because Coleman had triggered the camera on her front door.

“Then I heard, I heard five shots and I rushed and tried to go downstairs because I was like, 'Oh my God. Oh my God, my son, my son,'” she said.

The 26-year-old was hit several times.

When police arrived, they transported him to the hospital, where he died a short time later.

Unfortunately, the door camera didn't capture anything of the shooting. His mother says police haven't been able to give her much information.

“They keep telling me it was about him driving home at night and they film him driving home and it doesn't appear he was being followed,” Eberhart said.

The City of Philadelphia is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

All you need to do is call the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS. All calls remain anonymous.

“If I knew why I would never be satisfied because you all killed my son, I would at least know what the purpose was,” Eberhart said.
