LETTERS: Colorado's Culture of Death; Vouchers are really welfare | Opinion

Colorado's Culture of Death

The election is over and Colorado voters have enshrined “abortion at any time during pregnancy” in the Colorado Constitution. In addition, tax resources can now also be used to finance the intervention. Proponents euphemistically call it “reproductive freedom or rights,” “woman’s choice,” or “reproductive health.” No one is trying to interfere with their ability to reproduce. In fact, abortion opponents promote the birth of the unborn child.

I find it a little ironic that abortion-on-demand advocates are living, breathing people who have not undergone abortion. In fact, their mothers and fathers chose life, and I suspect that all of these abortion advocates are grateful for that. They had the opportunity to enjoy life, maintain relationships, enjoy a good meal, a vacation and a sunset.

On the other hand, those who were never given the opportunity to be born and enjoy life are not here to tell us what they think about abortion on demand.

It's amazing that we can vote to use tax dollars to do to others what we wouldn't have done to ourselves. The tyranny of the majority has created an environment for the “culture of death” in Colorado.

Vouchers are truly welfare

I read with interest the editorial team's comments on the rejection of the school choice amendment. As expected, the board used this opportunity to attack a popular bogeyman: teachers unions. The reality is that this change is not necessary. Parents in Colorado can send their children to any school they want.

This proposed change was a chance to put the camel's nose under the tent. The camel then snaked its way into the tent to collect taxpayer money to support a voucher program. I lived in Arizona for years and the voucher program there cost taxpayers millions upon millions of dollars and encouraged fraudulent trips to Hawaii for homeschooled people. The reality is that voucher programs are touted as school choice benefits for children in marginalized schools.

Vouchers are a real welfare for the wealthy. The vouchers are not enough to cover the cost of tuition at private schools, so economically disadvantaged people cannot use them. The result is that they are a subsidy for the wealthy who would send their children to private schools anyway.

What has become of society?

I'm a little tired of these liberal youths who think life is such a game where they can indulge their fantasies while being supported by the government and the wealthy and elite Democrats who pay very well for it will do very little. Conservatives generally work hard to make ends meet and support others through their taxes.

I was at the bank the other day and heard a healthy looking white guy with a ponytail saying, “No, I don't have a job, why would I want to work?” Imagine that! I talk to liberals who make six-figure or higher salaries and claim that they sleep or play their way through their jobs while the rest of us buy their products at grossly inflated prices.

What has become of society? I'm tired of being despised and labeled a Nazi or fascist. It is time to bring this country back from the brink of non-existence.

Combating crime

As an independent voter who did not vote for Donald Trump, I was initially dismayed to see him elected president. Then I realized how many laughs I would get listening to Republican elected officials and Trump supporters talk about tackling crime and criminals.

Congress after the election

For all the talk about the election results, not much is said about Congress. I hope that Republicans will control the Senate, but will still need to work together across party lines, and I hope that they can do things that benefit all Americans. We don't know the House results yet, but their performance in recent years has been terrible. The Freedom Caucus with Gaetz, Boebert, Greene, etc. was a clown show that couldn't accomplish anything, couldn't even fight over government funding. It will be interesting to see whether this situation improves with Donald Trump in office but not a large majority for either party.

Thanks to the voters

Thank God it's over. What a wild ride! We survived the most corrupt, rigged, dishonest and undemocratic elections I have ever experienced in my 80-plus years of life.

Thank God the American people didn't buy what the Democratic Party was selling. Respect for our country, democracy, established values and common sense prevailed.

This is a great opportunity to restore our country. Thank you to the voters.
