Hearing set for Lauderdale Co. judge accused of misuse of public funds

LAUDERDALE CO., Ala. (WAFF) – A Lauderdale County judge accused of misusing funds for personal use has now scheduled a status hearing, according to court documents obtained by WAFF.

Presiding Judge Gilbert Self has a status hearing scheduled for Nov. 14 where a trial date could be set, court documents show.

Self was arraigned on January 16th counts of exploiting office for personal gain or for the benefit of family members, one count of making false statements to the auditors and one count of perjury.

An audit found that Self spent more than $146,000 in county funds on unauthorized expenses, such as his son's employment.
