The fight leads to a shootout in Rocky Mount, the suspect is arrested and the victim is in serious condition

Rocky Mount police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a shooting that left one person hospitalized in serious condition.

At 11:17 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1300 block of W Raleigh Boulevard.

Upon arrival, investigation revealed that a fight occurred which resulted in gunfire.

The victim, Christopher Short, suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back. He was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, where he is currently being treated and remains in critical condition.

Police arrested Kendrick Richardson and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and intent to kill.

Richardson is being held without bail in the Nash County Jail.

The Rocky Mount Criminal Investigation Department continues to investigate.
