Homeless man arrested in stabbing in Batavia

A 29-year-old homeless man is in custody after being arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman in a vehicle on South Batavia Avenue Friday evening.

On Friday at approximately 6:17 p.m., Batavia Police were called to the 1000 block of South Batavia Avenue where they observed a vehicle parked in the roadway and a male subject standing outside the driver's side door. Officers found a 29-year-old woman in the driver's seat of the vehicle with an apparent stab wound to her upper body. After paramedics arrived on scene, the victim was evaluated and then transported to a local hospital where she is reported to be in stable condition.

During the investigation, both people located in the vehicle when officers arrived stated that they were the only people in the vehicle during the incident. With the assistance of a Kane County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit, a knife believed to have been used in the incident was found in the leaves and trees near where the vehicle was parked.

The suspect, who is currently incarcerated in the Kane County Jail, has been charged with the following crimes:

  • Armed Violence – Committing a Class 1 Felony with Weapons (720 ILCS 5/33A-2(a)) – Class X Felony;
  • Aggravated Domestic Violence (720 ILCS 5/12-3.3(a)) – Class 2 Felony;
  • Aggravated Assault (720 ILCS 5/12-3.05(a)(1)) – Class 3 Felony;
  • Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (720 ILCS 5/12-3.05(f)(1) – Class 3 Felony;
  • Obstructing justice, destroying evidence (720 ILCS 5/31-4(a)(1)) – Class 4 felony;
  • Domestic battery – makes physical contact (720 IICS 5/12-3.2(a)(2) – Class A misdemeanor;
  • Domestic Battery – Assault (720 ILCS 5/12-3.2(a)(1) – Class A Misdemeanor.
