Body found in burning car outside Escondido warehouse

Police and firefighters are investigating the death of a person whose body was found in a burning car in Escondido Sunday morning, a police lieutenant said.

It was not immediately known how the person died or what caused the fire, Lt. Janice Kuehn of the Escondido Police Department.

Authorities received reports of a vehicle on fire just before 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the public storage facility on Brotherton Road at Center City Parkway, Kuehn said. Both police officers and firefighters were on site.

Firefighters found the body in the car after putting out the flames, Kuehn said. Police did not provide any further information about the victim.

Police officers led the investigation with the help of arson investigators, at least until they could determine whether some type of crime was committed, Kuehn said.

Authorities remained on scene early Sunday afternoon conducting the investigation.
