Is Nico Collins playing tonight? Latest injury updates for Texans WR

The Houston Texans return home for Sunday Night Football in what could be a possible preview of the Super Bowl against the Detroit Lions. While the Texans will have Tank Dell back on the roster, one player could be out for another week.

Even though wide receiver Nico Collins was placed off injured reserve, it was always a game-time decision. Will the Texans' top target be able to play against the NFC favorites in Week 10?

That's the one question Texans and Lions fans alike want answered before their primetime duel at NRG Stadium.

Update on Nico Collins' injury

Collins, who missed the last four games with a hamstring injury, was officially scheduled to return Friday. This opened a 21-day window in which Collins could practice with the Texans without taking up space on the team's 53-man roster.

On Saturday, the Texans activated him to the 53-man roster but still listed him as questionable for Sunday's game. It was always assumed that his status was uncertain, especially considering he hadn't completed a full training session in almost a month.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was noncommittal when asked about the 25-year-old's status for Sunday's game against the NFC North leaders.

“Nico, he’s fine,” Ryans said after practice on Wednesday. “We’ll see where he ends up.”

On Sunday, the Texans listed him as inactive. He will need some time to recover before he can take the field.

When will Nico Collins return?

Barring a setback, Collins is expected to be cleared for Monday's Lone Star showdown against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. Houston is patient with its No. 1 receiver and knows the next three contests will bode well for him.

Second-year receiver Tank Dell, who was also on the injury report with a back injury, is ready to go. He will be CJ Stroud's No. 1 weapon against a troublesome but penalty-plagued Lions secondary.

Nico Collins stats

Collins, who last played in the Week 5 win over the Buffalo Bills, caught a 67-yard touchdown pass from Stroud in the first quarter before leaving the game for the rest of the evening. He entered Week 5 as the NFL's all-time leader in receiving yards with 567. Collins also ranked third in catches with 32 and led the Texans with three receiving touchdowns.

Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik praised Dell's performance after taking over as the leading receiver last Thursday.
