Ariana Grande's latest badass look referenced Glinda – and Dorothy

Of course, Grande had to bring her best red carpet look — Glinda pink, of course — to the premiere last night. The star wore a custom blush and white gingham check cocktail dress by Thom Browne, topped with an elegant shawl cape. “Working with Thom Browne was, as always, a dream come true,” says Grande, who also wore the designer at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics. “My favorite part about this dress is probably the asymmetry of the skirt, which goes from top to bottom, which looks very Ozian to me. [And] the intricate beading of the gingham check.” The look may have been Glinda-like – but the accessories were full of Dorothy, thanks to a dog-shaped handbag – very Hector meets Toto – and sparkling Swarvoski crystal heels. “We obviously wanted to give a nod to both Glinda and Dorothy with the original jeweled shoes from the L. Frank Baum books – which were not actually Ruby shoes!” Regardless of the color, these shoes were indeed magical: “There are 600,000 Pieces of triple cut pearls, 50,000 pieces of pink crystals and 50 incredible artists from the Thom Browne team involved in the creation of this piece,” says Grande.

It was another winning fashion moment from Grande (not to mention Erivo, who wore a perfect Elphaba green Louis Vuitton dress). And while the two stars still have a few premieres ahead of the film's release, Grande says her and Erivo's friendship will last forever. “When we're apart, we talk every day anyway so we don't have to miss each other too much,” Grande says. “I mean, haven’t you heard us sob about it enough times! I think everyone is sick of hearing that by now and honestly, my tear ducts are too!”
