Out of nowhere, My Chemical Romance has just begun…

We'll be honest: Since My Chemical Romance played two Black Parade performances at When We Were Young last month, we weren't expecting news from the band any time soon. But of course, out of nowhere on a random Monday, they broke the internet with a teaser post.

The New Jersey emo titans shared a graphic on Instagram with the caption: “If you could be anything, what would you be?” Some fans quickly became concerned that My Chem's social media was hacked over the summer , but guitarist Frank Iero and bassist Mikey Way liked this new post at the time of writing and shared it on their personal Instagram Stories and on Frank posting it to his feed, it seems pretty darn official (arrrghhhh!).

So what about the actual graphics themselves? There are buildings and possibly pieces of paper floating in the air at the bottom, and it kind of looks like it says MCR… but it also seems like it starts with a K. Does this all point to My Chemical Romance's scrapped concept album The Paper Kingdom? what they were working on after Danger Days before splitting up in 2013? In Kerrang!'s own narrative of this unreleased record, we previously explained that it was “conceptually centered around the story of a support group made up of parents whose children had died.” Unsurprisingly, those in attendance described it as the darkest of music , which My Chemical Romance had ever written, drawing comparisons to experimental alt-rockers Radiohead. A dark shadow had been cast over the band and they were making music that, according to Gerard's close friend and comic writer Grant Morrison, sounded nothing like the MCR we know and love.”

Or is it something completely different? New tour dates? Actually Album number five? It's been two and a half years since the incredible standalone single “The Foundations Of Decay”, so let's see…
