Cindy Brady's MAGA views have apparently killed a “Brady Bunch” revival

There was almost a continuation of the story of a lovely lady. Accordingly Susan Olsen, who portrayed Cindy – the adorable baby of the family in the hit 70s sitcom The Brady Bunch– A revival series about the famous blended family was in the works at CBS Studios, but was canceled due to its conservative political views.

When appearing on the WalkAway campaign Podcast, Olsen said her support from Donald Trump and her beliefs about COVID vaccines, among other opinions, led CBS Studios to cancel the revival series that would have followed the life and times of the adult Brady Bunch Children.

In the revival series, Olsen says that Cindy was a libertarian podcaster – but she also claims that CBS didn't want her to appear on the show because of her vocal political beliefs. “I had a phone call with my [TV] Siblings and my agent,” she said. “Everyone said, 'We're sorry, but they just won't budge. They just won't have you there.' I'm like, wow, I got canceled. A role I've played for over 50 years, which I can't play now because I'm too dangerous. I said, 'Okay guys, good luck, I hope you can sell it.'” A source close to the project says it was still in the very early stages of development when it was scrapped.

Although Olsen says CBS was hesitant to cast her in the first place, she also claims that discussions continued for about a year as she spoke on the phone with the revival's showrunner, the producer and the son of Sherwood Schwartz, the original's creator Brady Bunch. On the podcast, Olsen referred to the exchanges with the three executives as “the inquisition” and said they asked her questions about her political views. Olsen said the trio “drank every drop of Kool-Aid” and claimed that “we now know that the vaccine was neither safe nor effective.” (VF has reached out to a representative for Lloyd Schwartz for comment.) A source close to the project says the problem with Olsen's casting was not due to her support for Donald Trump, but rather her “controversial comments and hate speech that she has made to the has taken note”. It’s still there.”

According to Olsen, the revival would catapult the Brady family into the modern age. One of Jan's children would be trans, and one of the Bradys would have a black spouse. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Olsen disagreed. “To that I said, come on, let’s not be so obvious,” Olsen said. “Let’s make this Black spouse someone who has a really close relationship with another Brady, and that’s how this Brady met her. Give them a foundation so that this is not a symbolic position.”

This isn't the first time Olsen has reportedly lost a gig because of her conservative views. Olsen was fired from LA Talk Radio Two girls talk about politics after using anti-LGBTQ language in 2016.

According to Olsen, the revival series is “pretty much dead” now, but perhaps a series about five of the six Brady siblings isn't out of the question. All three Brady Bunch Guys, Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher Knight)and Bobby (Mike Lookinland) are still there, as are the other two girls, Marcia (Maureen McCormick) and Jan (Eve Plumb). (Robert Reed, who played patriarch Mike Brady, died in 1992, while Florence Henderson, who played Carol Brady, died in 2016. Ann B. Davis, who played housekeeper and midfielder Alice Nelson in the title sequence, died in 2014.) Even after a Brady society needs one Brady Bunch revival series, if only to get to the bottom of Marcia's pronunciation of the word Werewolves.
