Who is in Trump's cabinet so far? From Susie Wiles to the “border czar” Tom Homan

President-elect Donald Trump is beginning to fill key positions in his second government, with the focus so far on aides and allies who were his strongest supporters in the 2024 campaign.

Here's a look at who he's picked so far.

Susie Wiles, Chief of Staff

Wiles, 67, was senior advisor on Trump's 2024 presidential campaign and his de facto manager.

Wiles has a background in Florida politics. She helped Ron DeSantis win his first race for governor of Florida. Six years later, she was key to Trump's victory over him in the 2024 Republican primary.

Hiring Wiles was Trump's first major decision as president-elect and one that could be a crucial test for his new administration given her close relationship with the president-elect. Wiles is said to have won Trump's trust in part by running the most disciplined of Trump's three presidential campaigns.

Like no one else, Wiles was able to help keep Trump on track, not by criticizing his impulses, but by winning his respect by demonstrating his success after heeding her advice.

Mike Waltz, National Security Advisor

Trump has asked Waltz, a retired Army National Guard officer and war veteran, to become his national security adviser, a person familiar with the matter said Monday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter before Trump made a formal announcement.

The move would put Waltz at the head of a litany of national security crises ranging from ongoing efforts to supply Ukraine with weapons to escalating concerns about the growing alliance between Russia and North Korea to ongoing attacks by Iranian proxies in the Middle East urging a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and Hezbollah.

Waltz is a three-term Republican congressman from East Central Florida. He served several tours of duty in Afghanistan and also worked at the Pentagon as a political adviser when Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates were defense chiefs.

He is seen as hawkish against China and has called for a U.S. boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing over the country's involvement in the emergence of COVID-19 and ongoing mistreatment of the Uyghur Muslim minority.

Tom Homan, “Border Czar”

Homan, 62, was commissioned with Trump's top priority to carry out the largest deportation operation in the country's history.

It was widely expected that Homan, who led U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in his first administration under Trump, would be offered a position related to the border, an issue that Trump made central to his campaign.

Although Homan has insisted that such a massive undertaking would be humane, he has long been a loyal supporter of Trump's policy proposals, suggesting at a July conference in Washington that he would be willing to “conduct the largest deportation operation this country has ever seen.” has ever seen”.

Democrats have criticized Homan for defending Trump's “zero tolerance” border crossing policy during his first term, which led to the separation of thousands of parents and children seeking asylum at the border.

Elise Stefanik, United Nations Ambassador

Stefanik is a Representative from New York and one of Trump's staunchest defenders since his first impeachment.

Stefanik was elected to the House of Representatives in 2014 and was chosen by her GOP colleagues in the House to lead the House Republican Conference in 2021 when former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney was removed from her post after she publicly criticized Trump for falsely claimed he won the 2020 election. Stefanik, 40, has served in that role ever since as the third-ranking member of the House leadership.

Stefanik's questioning of university presidents about anti-Semitism on their campuses contributed to two of those presidents resigning, further raising their national profile.

If confirmed, she would represent American interests at the United Nations as Trump vows to end Russia's war on Ukraine, which began in 2022. He has also called for peace as Israel continues its offensive against Hamas in Gaza and its invasion of Lebanon targeting Hezbollah.

Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff for policy

Miller, a Immigration hardlinersHe was a vocal spokesman for Trump's mass deportation priority during the presidential campaign. The 39-year-old was a senior adviser during Trump's first term.

Miller has been a central figure in some of Trump's policy decisions, particularly his move to separate thousands of immigrant families.

Trump argued throughout the campaign that the country's economic, national security and social priorities could be met by deporting people who are in the United States illegally. Since Trump left office in 2021, Miller has been president of America First Legal, an organization made up of former Trump advisers that aims to advocate the Biden administration, media companies, universities and others on issues such as free speech and to challenge national security.

Lee Zeldin, Environmental Protection Agency

Trump has chosen the former New York representative. Lee Zeldin to serve as his choice to lead this Environmental Protection Agency.

Zeldin appears to have no experience on environmental issues but is a long-time supporter of the former president. The 44-year-old former member of the US House of Representatives from New York continued to write X“We will restore U.S. energy dominance, revitalize our automotive industry to bring back American jobs, and make the U.S. the global leader in AI.” “We will do this while protecting access to clean air and water,” he added added.

During his campaign, Trump frequently attacked the Biden administration's promotion of electric vehicles and falsely characterized a tax credit for electric vehicle purchases as a government mandate. Trump also often told his audience during the campaign that his administration would “Practice, baby, drill,” referring to his support for expanding oil exploration.

In a statement, Trump said Zeldin would “ensure fair and rapid deregulatory decisions implemented in a way that unleashes the power of American companies while maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet.” “
