Several users began posting about the outage on X (formerly Twitter).

“Verizon is putting all of us night owls and insomniacs on edge because there is obviously a nationwide outage. It’s definitely here in DC, MD, and I think Virginia,” one user commented. “This Verizon internet outage seems unusual. Also annoying,” said another.

“Verizon experienced a massive internet outage overnight. The outage has already lasted over two hours,” said a third user.

In response to a user's question, Verizon replied: “Either there is an outage or network maintenance affecting your region. We don't have full details yet. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We're trying to get all the information from our network team so we can give you all the latest updates.

According to Down Detector, reports of the outages increased between midnight and 2 a.m. EST, with the network receiving thousands of complaints during that time.

Ninety percent of these complaints related to internet services, nine percent were described as a “total blackout” and one percent involved TV streaming.
