Delphi Murder Trial: Extended Down the Hill Video Shown

On the fourth day of the Delphi murder trial, prosecutors showed jurors an extended version of the now-infamous video Liberty German recorded shortly before she and her friend Abigail Williams were murdered in 2017.

Richard Allen, a resident of Delphi, Indiana, is on trial for killing German and Williams, 13, on the afternoon of Feb. 13, 2017, after the teens went to jail Visit the Delphi Historical Trails to enjoy a day off from school.

That afternoon, German took a video on her cell phone that captured a man Monon High Bridgedressed in jeans, a blue jacket and a hoodie.

A small excerpt from the video that appears to show the man instructing the girls to go “down the hill.” was published by the Indiana State Police years ago as part of the investigation, but the jury saw an extended version of the video for the first time on Tuesday WRTV.

Indiana State Police Lt. Brian Bunner, a digital forensics expert, took the stand to testify about data he was able to retrieve from German's phone during the initial processing on February 15, 2017.

Authorities discovered an approximately 35- to 40-second video that German shot at 2:13 p.m. on the afternoon of February 13, 2017, that showed the teen and Williams running down the Delphi High Bridge. While she's recording, German pans up at one point and no one appears to be behind them. However, later in the video a man can be seen following them.

On Tuesday afternoon, the jury was played the unedited version of the video, which showed one of the girls seemingly saying as they walked to the end of the bridge, “There is no path.” The path ends here, so we have to here go down?”

The jury was also shown several screenshots from cell phone video of the man who later became known in the media as “Bridge Guy.”

Later that afternoon, after coroner Jeremy Chapman took the stand, jurors saw an extended version of the video, they say WRTVwhere the man could be heard instructing the girls, “Guys, down the hill.”

The girls then began climbing down the bank of Deer Creek before the video ended at the Indianapolis train station WXIN reported.

Earlier this week, Indiana State Police crime scene investigator Brian Olehy testified that both girls were found dead near the trail the next day, their throats slit ABC News. German's cell phone, which was used to record the video, was found under Williams' body. Some of her clothing was recovered from the nearby stream.

Witness says he saw man “covered in mud and blood.”

Several witnesses also came forward and reported seeing a suspicious man on the trail that afternoon who matched the description of the man in the video.

Railly Voorhies, who was 16 at the time of the murders and was friends with both victims on Snapchat, testified that she saw a man on the trail that afternoon who “didn't seem to be a happy person.” To WRTV.

Breann Wilber, then a student at Delphi High School, was also on the trail that afternoon and recalled seeing a man who she described matching the description of “Bridge Guy” shortly before the video was taken. According to her statement, the man gave her “weird vibes.”

“It was a warmer day and he was dressed in lots of layers and went with a purpose,” she said.

Sarah Carbaugh testified that later that day, around 4 p.m., she saw a man as she drove past the path walking with his hands in his pockets and appearing to be “covered in mud and blood.” The Indianapolis Star Reports.

Carbaugh initially didn't tell police about seeing the man she believed was “Bridge Guy” because she said on the stand she was scared, but came forward about three weeks later.

Defense attorney Andrew Baldwin disputed her account, pointing out under cross-examination that in two separate interviews in 2017, Carbaugh initially described the man as being covered in “mud,” not blood. She only used the word “blood” in a third interview in 2019, he claimed.

The trial continues this week.

Everyone who was arrested in 2022has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
