Kevin Costner didn't know about the death of the “Yellowstone” character until the film aired

November 12 (UPI) – Kevin Costner says he knows nothing about it Yellowstone Death of the character John Dutton until the episode aired on Paramount on Sunday night.

“I'm being completely honest. I didn't know it actually aired last night,” Costner, 69, said on Monday's edition of SiriusXM The Michael Smerconish Program.

“This is a moment I swear to God. I've seen ads everywhere that have my face in them and I'm like, 'Man, I'm not in that.' But I didn’t know it was yesterday.”

He didn't immediately watch the episode to see what happened to his character, a Montana rancher who became the state's governor.

“I heard it was a suicide,” Costner said. “So that doesn’t make me rush to see it.”

At the end of the episode, it is revealed that John's death was actually a murder, staged as a suicide by Sarah (Dawn Olivieri), the scheming girlfriend of his adopted son Jamie (Wes Bentley), the state's attorney general.

Costner announced that he would not be returning for the second half of the fifth season – which premiered on Sunday – as delays in production led to scheduling conflicts with another project, his own horizon series of films.

The first half of Yellowstone The fifth season ended airing in January 2023.
