Jake Pope reacts to a viral video of himself celebrating with Ole Miss fans

In case you missed it, Georgia football defensive back Jake Pope was captured on video celebrating with Ole Miss fans immediately after this weekend's loss to the Rebels. And the video, as you can imagine, is about as bad as it gets.

There's really no explanation as to why Pope thought this was okay. Kirby Smart agrees with this sentiment and even went so far as to call Pope an “idiot” for what he did in this video.

Now that Georgia's fan base has had the opportunity to respond to this video, and Smart has also spoken out, Pope himself was the only person left to comment on this video. Luckily, he did just that on Monday by posting the following statement on social media.

Pope explains in the post above that his reaction from Ole Miss fans was not because he was celebrating the Rebels' win over Georgia, but because he was excited because those fans were his family friends. And the reason they wore Ole Miss gear is because a former teammate of Pope's who plays for Ole Miss is also a family friend.

There is no reason to doubt this statement from Pope or to believe that he is lying, but it is hard to believe that he is telling the whole story.

Is it normal to act so excited just because you see someone so much that you jump up and down, smile and laugh? Maybe, but probably unlikely. Especially considering Georgia was just minutes after suffering its first loss to a team not named Alabama in over four years.

No one is saying they shouldn't be happy to see their family friends again, in fact it's probably okay if they're a little happy for their former teammate at Ole Miss. But to be so excited while all the fans around him are rushing the field? It doesn't look to me like Pope was just happy to see his family friends.
