TBI agents investigate use of force incident in Jackson County – TBINewsroom.com

At the request of 15th Judicial District Attorney General Jason Lawson, TBI special agents are investigating a use-of-force incident that occurred Wednesday evening involving Jackson County Sheriff's Office officers.

According to preliminary information, Jackson County officials went to an address on Twin Tower Road in Gainesboro to conduct a court-ordered eviction. Initial reports from the scene indicate that one of the occupants fired a firearm in the direction of the officers and the officers then returned fire. No one was injured in the incident. The perpetrator in the home surrendered after barricading himself in a room and was eventually taken into custody.

At this time, this investigation is still active and ongoing. TBI agents are working to independently investigate the series of events that led to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, the results of the investigation are submitted to the Attorney General for further review and review. The TBI acts solely as an expert witness in its cases and does not determine whether an officer was justified in these matters. That decision rests with the district attorney, who requests TBI involvement.

The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these incidents and instead refers questions of this nature to the appropriate departments to respond at their discretion.
