Man accused of shooting and killing. Elkhart restaurant owner charged with murder

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – The man arrested last week in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a restaurant owner has now been formally charged.

According to MyCase, 24-year-old Joshua Martinez of Plymouth was charged with murder and attempted murder on Tuesday.

The shooting occurred Nov. 3 in the 700 block of County Road 3 North, which is near Elkhart High School. When police arrived on scene, they said they found two men who had been shot.

One of the men, 33-year-old Romulo Reyes of Elkhart, died from his injuries at the scene. According to the mayor's office in Elkhart, Reyes was one of the owners of Madrid Tokio Fusion. The popular restaurant opened in downtown Elkhart just last summer.

The other man, a 38-year-old from South Bend, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Last week we were told his condition was improving.

Martinez is due in court for an initial hearing on Thursday. Officials say he is being held without bail until then.
