Michigan State will certainly have its hands full in Atlanta, although they showed plenty of potential in their first two games of the 2024-25 season on home soil. After a win over Monmouth to open the season, the Spartans saw solid performances from several players in their win over Niagara last Thursday. Unlike the season opener, five Spartans scored in double figures, including Jaxon Kohler, who led MSU with a double-double and scored 20 points with 13 rebounds. Jaden Akins also scored 10 points for the second straight game.

The Jayhawks have already been battle-tested this season. The No. 1 team in the county took on the North Carolina Tar Heels last Friday, and thanks to great performances from Zeke Mayo and Hunter Dickinson, KU was able to pull out a 92-89 win. With a strong frontcourt and sold shooters, the J-Birds have a team that is expected to be successful in March.

This will be the 11th meeting between the Spartans and Jayhawks on the hardwood. Each team has five wins in the series, with Kansas winning the last meeting in November 2022 in New York City. Eight of the ten meetings between the schools took place in the regular season, two of them in the NCAA Tournament.
