Man arrested on murder charges in connection with pedestrian death in Van Zandt County

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office says it received a 911 call around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6th reporting that a woman was in a car-pedestrian collision in the Rolling Oaks community in rural Van Zandt County was injured. The person who called the dispatcher took the injured woman, Angela Yvonne Lewis, 50, to the emergency room at Hunt County Regional Medical Center in Quinlan. Life-saving measures failed and Lewis was pronounced dead around 11:30 p.m

The Hunt County Sheriff's Office responded to the emergency room and began investigating the incident. After officers determined the incident occurred at an address at 3840 Van Zandt County Road in the Rolling Oaks Community, the investigation was turned over to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses and a possible suspect were taken to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office where the investigation continued.

Interviews and investigations led investigators to obtain and execute multiple search warrants in Van Zandt and Hunt counties. Investigators also obtained an arrest warrant for Phillip Shane Cromwell, 48, of Waco Bay. Cromwell was arrested Thursday afternoon and taken to the Van Zandt County Jail where he is charged with the murder of Angela Lewis. Cromwell remains in the Van Zandt County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
