Tim Hyers is leaving the Rangers to take the Braves coaching job

ARLINGTON – The Rangers' big league coaching staff is in a bit of a shakeup.

Hitting coach Tim Hyers is leaving the organization to take the same position with the Braves. Offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker and assistant coach Seth Connor will remain with the Rangers immediately.

Hyers was a key addition for Texas early in the 2022 season and, along with Ecker and Connor, transformed an offense into the best in the American League en route to the World Series title in 2023.

Hyers has won a World Series in each of his last two stops as a hitting coach, including with the Red Sox in 2018.

Hyers, a Georgia native who attended high school about 30 miles east of Atlanta, will make the lateral move to the Braves.

There were problems in and around the 2024 season. Texas finished 23rd in OPS in 2024 at .690 as several key contributors like Adolis García and Jonah Heim struggled throughout the year.

Even after failing to reach the postseason in 2024, the Rangers praised the trio of Hyers, Ecker and Connor and expected a rebound heading into 2025.

At the end of the season, manager Bruce Bochy said that the entire staff had been invited to return, but Ecker and assistant manager Will Venable both interviewed for the White Sox's managerial opening, in addition to Hyers' departure.

Ecker is no longer in the cast for the role in Chicago, but the organization reportedly likes Venable.

The Rangers will likely take over Hyers' role soon, possibly within the next week, while Ecker retains the role of offensive coordinator.
