Semi-truck accident, downed poles closed Kailua-bound lanes on Kailua Road

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Cleanup efforts are underway after a semi-truck toppled several poles and damaged a home in an accident Tuesday.

It happened around noon on Kailua Road near the intersection of Kalanianaole Highway.

All lanes of Kailua Road toward Kailua are closed between Kalanianaole Highway and Uluoa Street.

The crash caused a pole to fall onto the roof of Rheanna Stancil-Williams' home. She said she was out to lunch with her family when it happened.

“We were actually coming home from Windward Mall and as we were coming up Kailua Road we noticed the poles at the bottom of the park. And then as we passed by, we noticed the pole on our house,” she said.

Stancil-Williams said her roof is now damaged.

“The pole is leaning against our gutter and you can see it's dented into the roof a little bit,” she said. “There's a pole sticking out of the utility pole that actually got caught on our wall and that actually contributed to the impact crashing completely onto our roof.”

“We haven’t felt the impact at home, so we’re very lucky,” Stancil-Williams said.

The truck belongs to Reyes Beverage Group. The company said in a statement:

“We are aware of an incident that occurred in Oahu today involving one of our trucks. We are grateful no one was injured and are working closely with local authorities to investigate the matter. We will take appropriate action based on our findings.”
