Detroit parents are accused of beating their 8-year-old son to death

Two Detroit parents are accused of beating their 8-year-old son to death Friday morning.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said first responders were called to a home in the 600 block of Clairmont Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Friday. Paramedics arrived and transported the child to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Wayne County coroner determined the cause of death was “multiple blunt force trauma to the head,” Worthy said in a news release. Charged in the death are the boy's parents, Jamarr Hill, 37, and Kentoria Latricia Moss, 31, both of Detroit.

Additional facts and evidence will be presented in court, Worthy said.

“The alleged facts in this case are shocking. “The defendants in this case worked together to beat and ultimately kill this poor child – two adults against an eight-year-old,” Worthy said. “Little Adren had zero chance of survival.”

Hill faces aggravated murder and first-degree child abuse. Moss faces second-degree murder and lying to a peace officer as part of a violent crime investigation. If convicted on their respective murder charges, both suspects face life in prison. Hill would have no possibility of parole; Moss would.

The couple was arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court in Detroit. Online court records show both suspects remained silent and the court entered pleas of innocence on their behalf. Hill was booked into jail and bond for Moss was set at $500,000, Worthy said.

An attorney is not listed in online records for either Moss or Hill.

A prosecutor's spokesman said her next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
