Teen found in subway chimney was shot, police say – NBC4 Washington

The body of an 18-year-old, last seen in late October, may have been in a Metro ventilation shaft for almost two weeks before it was discovered. Police confirmed Tuesday evening that the body found near the Anacostia station on November 8 was that of Alexander Pavón-Rios.

D.C. police now confirm that Pavón-Rios was shot.

Metro has an extensive surveillance camera system that likely captured images of the teen's travels through the system that day.

Family members said Pavón-Rios was last seen on Oct. 27 around 10 p.m.

A friend said he saw him at the Fort Totten subway station in Northeast D.C. He told family members he saw the teenager talking to a group of people he didn't know.

Nearly two weeks later, Pavón-Rios' body was discovered in a ventilation shaft on Metro's Green Line not far from the Anacostia station in the southeast.

The D.C. Fire Department was called to remove his remains from the shaft, which is in a wooded area off Suitland Parkway.

At her home in Northwest D.C., where her son lived until he recently moved to Prince George's County, his mother spoke to News4 partner Telemundo 44.

She did not want to be identified because her son's killers are still at large, but expressed concern that the friend who last saw her son at the Fort Totten station had told investigators she had not spoken to him to have.

She said she was hoping for help now.

The family is making arrangements to return the 18-year-old's remains to their native Nicaragua.
