'I hope you die in terrible pain': Suspect arrested, family speaks out after 7-Eleven stabbing

A prayer for the family of a store employee murdered Friday was answered as police identified and arrested the man accused of killing the 18-year-old mother on Tuesday.

“I hope you die in terrible pain. As you die, I hope you see the face of my cousin and her son and what you took from her,” said Somer Goodgion, Jaedynn Anthony’s cousin.

Police received two tips from Crime Stoppers that identified 23-year-old Anthony Gonzalez Jr.

Police and U.S. Marshals went to Gonzalez's home on Tuesday and were seen examining the apartment for evidence.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, Gonzalez Jr. walked into the 7-Eleven where he was greeted by the clerk, 18-year-old Jaedynn Anthony.

“She did her job, she said hello to him, and he said hello to her when he walked in the door,” Goodgion said.

The video shows Gonzalez talking to Anthony while paying for items.

“When the victim, an employee there at the store, opened the register, the suspect pulled out a knife and demanded money from the register,” said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Dillon Quirk.

Then, after complying with her request, a court affidavit shows Gonzalez stabbed her once, then walked away and left her to die. Police said he was walking home about a mile away. On Tuesday, the house was surrounded by police and crime tape, and officers were seen collecting a machete and a knife.

“The boldness with which the man said hello to her, even though he knew what you were going to do to this little baby,” Goodgion said. A customer found Anthony and called the police, but it was too late.

“I’m trying to put it all together: why, how, what for,” Goodgion added.

Anthony leaves behind a one-year-old son.

Goodgion says she should never have been alone at work and said she often feared for her safety.

“They are not allowed to have the phones, she brought pepper spray to work to protect herself. What do you give these people to protect themselves? Don’t give them anything,” Goodgion added.

Goodgion says she won't be entering another 7-Eleven.

“I won’t spend another dollar. Because you don’t care about your people.”

She says changes need to be made.

“If you can’t change your policies, you have to close your doors. Because these are real people, not robots,” Goodgion said.

Police said surveillance showed Gonzalez was wearing slippers. And that he was wearing the same shoes when they arrested him today.
