Wahpeton man arrested in teen shooting

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A 19-year-old Wahpeton man was arrested after police said he shot a juvenile at a residence.

On Monday, October 21, just before 11 p.m., police received reports of shots fired in the 2600 block of 15th Street in South Fargo.

Court documents show that when officers arrived, they found several holes, broken glass and other marks on the exterior of the home. According to the documents, a juvenile was in the apartment, heard glass breaking and ran outside to see what was going on.

Court documents say he witnessed a car drive past him and “felt a bullet pass his head.”

A witness also reported hearing gunshots and seeing a car drive away.

Fargo police said they found three shell casings containing 9mm cartridges on 27th Avenue near the apartment. They confirmed the teen was never struck and no other injuries were reported.

According to police, the teenager had previously been involved in another shooting. The victim was 19-year-old Gi Vanni Garcia of Wahpeton.

Court records show police spoke to Gi Vanni about the Oct. 21 incident, who claims he was in the car and saw the teen reaching for his waistband. Garcia said he felt threatened and shot in his direction without intending to hit him.

Gi Vanni Garcia was taken to jail and faces charges of reckless endangerment and terrorism.
