“Full House” star Dave Coulier has been diagnosed with “very aggressive” cancer

Dave Coulier, best known for his role as Joey Gladstone on Full House, has revealed that he is suffering from stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Coulier, 65, said he was diagnosed in October after suffering from an upper respiratory infection caused by severe swelling of his lymph nodes.

“Three days later my doctors called me back and said, 'We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and it's called B-cell lymphoma and it's very aggressive,'” he said to People.

Dave Coulier starred in Full House alongside the late Bob Saget, John Stamos, Lori Loughlin, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

“I had a bit of a cold and then got cancer and it was pretty overwhelming,” he added. “It was a really fast rollercoaster ride.”

According to the American Cancer Society, B-cell lymphoma is a type of cancer that arises in B lymphocytes. B-cell lymphomas account for the vast majority of non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Each year, more than 80,000 Americans are diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

“The first thing I said to them was, 'Wait a minute – cancer?'” Coulier shared on the “Today” show. “(I felt) like I got punched in the gut because that never happens to you. You always hear about it happening to someone else.”

“I was just thinking, 'How am I going to tell her?'” he says. “When I told her, of course she thought I was joking.”

Melissa “organized (his) entire life, from his diet to his doctor’s appointments to his pills.”

“She color-coded things,” he added. “It’s really great.”

Coulier revealed he began chemotherapy two weeks after his diagnosis. According to the “Full House Rewind” podcast, the comedian took a “preemptive strike” and decided to shave his head.

The “Full House” star has remained in good spirits since his devastating diagnosis.

“My joke is that I went from a Virgo to a Cancer in four short weeks,” he shared with Today. “I tried to keep a sense of reality, but also a sense of humor.”

“I told Melissa that I don't know why, but I'm okay with whatever the news is, no matter how devastating it may be. … I can’t explain where that came from,” he said. “I had an incredible life. I had the greatest people in my life. This has been an extraordinary journey and I’m okay if this is the end of the journey.”

Coulier starred in the popular sitcom alongside late Bob SagetJohn Stamos, Lori Loughlin, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The show ran for eight seasons, from 1987 to 1995.
