Lompoc man charged with attempted murder in shooting at Buellton home

A Lompoc man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Nov. 8 after he allegedly fired multiple shots at a residence in Buellton and fled in his truck to the Lompoc Home Depot, according to a news release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office . No injuries were reported.

Officers responded to a disturbance on Valley Station Drive in downtown Buellton at 8:55 p.m. Friday, where they were told that 35-year-old Sergio Martin Lopez Hernandez was allegedly “shouting obscenities at the victim” before firing a firearm pulled out of his waistband and fired shots into the residence. Lopez Hernandez was known to the male victim, whose identity was not released.

The suspect allegedly “[drove] “I drove away at a high rate of speed,” and an alert about the suspect’s Ford F150 was sent to law enforcement in the area. The truck was spotted by the California Highway Patrol in the parking lot of the Lompoc Home Depot at 9:10 p.m. and the suspect was soon arrested by officers. A loaded firearm with the serial number scratched off was found in the suspect's vehicle.

Lopez Hernandez was booked into the Northern Branch Jail on charges of attempted murder, altering identifying marks on a firearm and shooting at an inhabited dwelling, as well as driving under the influence and carrying a loaded firearm in public. He is being held on $1 million bail.
