Wareham tow truck driver collapses at scene of accident in Bourne

A 52-year-old tow truck driver from Wareham died at the scene of a three-car crash Tuesday, according to Bourne police.

According to a police statement, police were called to the intersection of Scenic Highway and Nightingale Road at 5:15 p.m. to respond to a motor vehicle accident. A local tow truck driver cleared the roadway and helped remove the vehicle and collapsed at the scene.

Police administered first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation using an automated external defibrillator, and Bourne Fire and Rescue was called and continued rescue attempts. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, according to the statement.

Despite life-saving efforts, the man died, police said.

The name of the man and the towing company were not immediately released to allow time for family notification.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the details of this incident. Our sincerest condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the towing company,” the police statement said.

Members of the Bourne Police Department work closely with the community's tow truck operators and rely on them daily to help keep the roads open and safe, police said.

No one was injured in the three-car accident, police said.
