Portland man is appealing conviction and sentence after pleading guilty to killing girlfriend in Acadia NP

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A Portland man who pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend in Acadia National Park is appealing his conviction and sentence.

Raymond Lester, 38, was sentenced to 48 years in prison in February.

Lester was charged in the 2022 death of his girlfriend, 35-year-old Nicole Mokeme.

Authorities say Lester hit Mokeme with a car during a retreat in Acadia National Park and drove off.

A month later, Lester was arrested in Mexico.

Lester is expected to appeal his sentence Wednesday afternoon in Bangor.
