Wedding party bus falls into river in Pakistan, killing 14 people

A bus carrying 27 passengers plunged into the Indus River in northern Pakistan on Tuesday, killing 14 people, according to a statement from Gilgit-Baltistan authorities.

Twelve of the remaining passengers are missing, one passenger survived the accident with injuries, according to the authorities' statement.

According to authorities, the accident occurred due to speeding and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

According to local broadcaster Geo, the bus was part of a wedding procession heading to Pakistan's Chakwal district when it fell into the river from the Telchi Bridge on the edge of Diamer district.

Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan because traffic rules are rarely followed and roads in many rural areas are in poor condition.

At the beginning of August, at least 34 people were killed in two bus accidents in northeast and southwest Pakistan.
