Spotify introduces a new payout model for creators with popular videos

Spotify wants to compete with YouTube with its new partner program for creators and viral content. The music and podcast app announced that it will monetize audio and video content beyond advertising revenue starting January 2, 2025.

pays Spotify creators in two ways. Through the partner program, YouTubers can earn a share of the advertising revenue from their content on all platforms. You can also earn money through monthly podcast subscriptions, which “allow listeners to directly support creators in return for exclusive bonus content and perks.”

Participation requirements also apply to both levels. The Spotify Partner Program requires participants to host and upload their content via the Spotify for Creators platform, have streamed 10,000 hours within 30 days, received at least 2,000 unique views, and published at least 12 episodes. Subscriptions are open to content creators who publish at least two episodes within 60 days and have at least 100 unique Spotify listeners. The new programs will be available next January to subscribers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Spotify has taken further steps to make its video and music content more accessible and mainstream. The music and video streamer is integrated so that users can post tracks on the social media sites.
