'Cobra Kai' Makers Tease Kwon and Tory in Barcelona: 'Karate Exuberance Ensues'

It looks like Miyagi-Do captain Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) has more to worry about than scoring points on the mat Cobra Kai Season 6 returns on November 15th.

In the first five episodes of last season, Robby and his Miyagi-Do classmates trained for the prestigious Sekai Taikai tournament – but when they arrived in Barcelona, they learned that under the leadership of Tory (Peyton List) The “No Mercy” duo John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Kim Da-Eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim) defected to the Cobra Kai dojo.

That's bad news for Miagyi-Do senseis Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), but it could be even worse news for Robby and Tory's romance. Fans of the duo weren't happy with the brief shot in the Season 6, Part 2 trailer of Kwon (Brandon H. Lee) putting his arm around Tory – and they might have reason to be concerned. “With Robby and Tory in a negative place, Kwon has the opportunity to step in,” says Hayden Schlossberg, who created the role Cobra Kai with Jon Hurwitz and Josh Heald.

The Big 3 treated themselves to it Weekly entertainment with some additional nods to the new episodes, including what awaits Tory and Robby, those “next level karate fights” at Sekai Taikai, and Daniel's search for the truth about Mr. Miyagi.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: In a recent preview clip, we met Zara (Rayna Vallandingham) and Axel (Patrick Luwis) from the Iron Dragons. Tell us a little about how Zara and Axel will appear in the second part.

JON HURWITZ: The Iron Dragons are one of the other dojos in the Sekai Taikai, and you will quickly realize that they are a force to be reckoned with. It is a dojo based in Hong Kong with the best students from all over the world. Many of the dojos are representative of different countries, but this dojo has a slightly more international focus. You have been very successful in Sekai Taikai for quite some time. They are led by Lewis Tan's Sensei Wolf, who is a force in his own right.

We've had this rivalry between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do for so long, but you're on the world stage right now. There will be other dojos, and the Iron Dragons are just the tip of the iceberg of dojos that our competitors have to worry about.

From the little bit of him we see in the trailer, Sensei Wolf appears to be from the No Mercy teaching school.

JOSH HEALD: Her sensei is a three-time former master of Sekai Taikai and an influential figure in the international martial arts community. You'll see early on that Sensei Wolf takes his cues more from the book of someone like Kreese than someone like Daniel in terms of his approach to leadership and the way he demands the best from his students. But [his method] It also worked, his dojo dominated and he attracted the biggest talents. We compared them to a kind of dynasty, like the New England Patriots below [Bill] Belichick and [Tom] Brady. There's something in the special sauce that makes them work, but it might not be the most emotionally healthy either.

Tory-Robby shippers lost their minds when the trailer featured a shot of Kwon and Tori smooching. What can you tell us about that?

HAYDEN SCHLOSSBERG: When you go abroad, karate revelry ensues. [Laughs] You take a bunch of teenagers and you take them to a karate tournament in Barcelona and they're all in a hotel – different relationships start to develop. I don't want to say too much about what will happen, but there is always drama off the mat. I think with Robby and Tory in a negative position, Kwon has the opportunity to get in there. We'll see how this plays out, but be prepared for a little drama off the mat.

Looking at what we see in the trailer, the Sekai Taikai matches look crazy – especially whatever happens with the raised platform.

HURWITZ: It's so much fun. In the writers' room, it was important to us to develop next-level karate matches, competitions that were different than what you saw at All Valley. We had the idea for this elevated fight and didn't know if we could do it since we had the budget of a 22-minute comedy. So everything we do in the stunt world means we're already stretching a lot.

But we met with our production producer in Atlanta, Bob Wilson, and walked around Eastern, the place where we filmed. He looks up there and says: “This is a concert venue. At this point there were platforms lowered from the ceiling. Maybe we can achieve what we set out to do.” I won't go into the details of this fight, but as Mike Barnes said in the first part, the Sekai Taikai is a dangerous place and our fighters are being put in positions , whose level of danger is much higher than what they have previously dealt with.

In the fifth episode, Daniel was stunned to find Mr. Miyagi's blood-stained headband from the Sekai Taikai. Give us a little taste of where this plot is going.

HEALD: We never drop a plot to keep the secret. Daniel is someone who is very curious and asks deep questions to anyone and everyone to find out where it could lead him. Explosive things happen when he digs a little further than he probably should.

All five episodes of Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2 premieres Friday, November 15, on Netflix.
