At 50 years old, Victor Wembanyama is the youngest center in NBA history

You know, there's been a lot of buzz lately around the idea that Victor Wembanyama is shooting too many threes. People are totally freaked out because he's not the best Shaq or anything and instead plays like the modern 2024 NBA stretch. Should he sometimes remember that he is 1.95 meters tall and just put the ball in? Secure. But there's a reason why Wemby is Wemby and why he's a basketball alien.

You think he shoots too many 3s, he says, watch me make 50 by making 8 of them

Yes, that was against the Wizards. We can all acknowledge that disclaimer, but at the same time we're talking about 50 points in 27 minutes. Let's not pretend this is normal. In fact, it is historical

So let Wemby be Wemby. He shoots a lot of threes because nights like this are possible. After a slow start to his season, Wemby has flipped the switch and if these difficult days are behind us and nights like this are the future then we're all screwed. I know I say this every time he does some crazy shit, but what else can you say? He's doing this shit at 20 years old! Things will only get better from here!

Will he go 8-15 from deep every night? Of course not, but that's not really the point. The point is that he has the potential to explode like that, which means you really have to guard him from 30 feet away. There's no mistaking the fact that this opens everything up offensively, and then when you need to make a change, you can take advantage of his size on the block. It is system safe if The is the type of spacing it can provide on a consistent basis.

For those who might think this is just a coincidence, let me remind you that Wemby was 6-12 from deep in his last game and 6-9 from clean sheet before that. That's just what he does. He now has 5 games in the season of at least 4pm, which is almost half of Spurs games so far this season. We've all been wondering what Wemby could bring in year two, and from the looks of it, it's an improved outside hit that, if you're not careful, can bury you on the way to a 50-ball.

Good luck!
